Community Building Workshop

We invite you to join us as we work to enhance the quality of life in the West Yellowhead Region by strengthening community leadership, collaboration, and innovation through recreation, parks, arts, culture and heritage.

Participants will have the opportunity to:
Gain an understanding of community leadership and community building Access a framework to use a community development approach to planning for quality of life
Connect like-minded individuals and communities who are interested in enhancing quality of life

Who should attend?
Individuals or groups working in the quality of life sector such as: elected officials, business owners, youth, volunteers, and practitioners working in recreation, health, social services, justice, education, tourism, arts, heritage, culture, and others. Participants from other communities are welcome.

Web Page Design

Create your own website! In this hands-on class we’ll examine all of the basic elements associated with the creation and management of websites
using Dreamweaver. We’ll discuss the use of HTML and styles, managing web page design elements and enhancing web pages with web graphics. 
After this course, you should be comfortable
maintaining a website or even building your own. Must have your own laptop to register for this class.

 

Office 2007 Interface

Have you purchased the new Office 2007 and are wondering where they put everything? Then this 3-hour program will answer your questions and provide you with hands on experience to help you find the features you were using in Office 2003.

 

EMPLOYMENT ENHANCEMENT

ProServe

In-class training has a higher degree of learning than the on-line version. The goal of ProServe Liquor Staff Training is to promote responsible liquor service in Alberta. Training topics include legal responsibilities and liabilities, identifying
intoxication, handling situations involving minors, and discontinuing or refusing sale of alcohol. Mandatory Certification for anyone serving alcohol as of January 1, 2010.

 

GPS, Mapping & Orientation
Date: Sun. Feb 28
Time: 9:00 - 4:00 pm
Cost: $60


Bring a lunch, dress appropriately. In this workshop you will learn how to use Global Positioning Systems, understand the features of a map, and how to use a compass to plot a course and take a bearing. This hands-on training will prepare individuals with the skills and knowledge to plan a route for a backcountry trip. A part of this class will be spent outside.

Anger Control Training

Ask yourself the question: Do you control your anger or does anger control you? Not sure, or the answer is the anger, then come on out and lets take a look at the question closer and see if we can come up with some ways to make a positive change in your life.

Eating Right 4 Your Blood Type

Your blood type determines the food you need, and even how you should exercise. Your Blood Type Plan lets you zero in on the health and nutrition information that corresponds to your exact biological profile.With this information, you will be able to make better choices about your diet, exercise and general health that are based on the dynamic natural forces within your own body. You should know your blood type prior to attending this presentation.Blood Type Testing is available at Beloved for $20 - this should be done prior to the workshop.

 

Alzheimer’s Seminar for Family & Friends
Date: Thurs. Feb 11

This presentation will look at the importance of focusing on BEING with people rather than DOING to them. Being person centered is a philosophy that underpins good quality care and support for people with dementia. Arlene will provide helpful hints and tips for understanding Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. There will also be discussion on supports and self-care for the caregiver.

 

Understanding & Prevention of Alzheimer’s Disease

Currently over 500,000 people in Canada suffer from this disease of which 72% are women. Learn more about this disease and the early signs and symptoms. This workshop will benefit service providers and front line staff who serve or work with seniors or anyone wanting to learn about this disease. Arlene will also discuss prevention tips and strategies.
Guest speaker: Arlene Huhn is the Manager of Education and Support Services at the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories.

Digital Photography
Date: Feb 4 & 6 (Thurs and Sat)

This course is designed for people who would like to get more out of their camera. Students are guided through hands-on methods of image capture and basic camera manipulation. Participants should have a digital camera with the ability to control settings manually. Join photographer Alisen Charlten and learn valuable tips for getting better shots of Jasper’s amazing scenery.

East Indian Cuisine:Vegetarian

Discover Indian flavours with us as we guide you through the fundamentals of Indian cuisine, teaching ingredients, techniques and recipes with ease, helping you to cook delicious and healthy vegetarian Indian dishes at home. This class will provide you with a great overview to many traditional styles of vegetarian Indian cooking. This course is hands-on, informative and interactive.
