LANGUAGE

ESL for Beginners
Date: May 10 - June 9 (Mon & Wed)
Time: 6:00 - 8:30 pm
Cost: $60

 

For people who have some very basic English skills, but need to improve in all areas for better communication. Grammar, vocabulary, reading and speaking are key areas that will be covered in class. Improvement in these areas will help with confidence when communicating in an English speaking setting.

English Language Learning:
Intermediate
Date: May 11 - June 17 (Tues & Thurs)
Time: 6:00 - 8:30
Cost: $80


This program is designed for foreign workers who need to improve their English language skills and who are new to Jasper and Alberta. There will be focus on orienting newcomers to the community, establishing connections to reduce isolation, and, with support, lay the groundwork for participation in all aspects of community life.

 

Employer Workshop:Common Ground: English in the Workplace
Date: May 18

Common Ground: English in the Workplace is designed to support Alberta workplaces in setting up and delivering their own English in the Workplace program customized to the needs of the company.   It will benefit employers
encountering challenges related to language, culture, and employee integration. These challenges directly impact workplace safety, productivity, and employee retention rates. The resource emphasizes the importance of the employer and employee mutually engaging in learning to develop common ground at work, together realizing the importance of workplace communication.

This comprehensive First Aid & CPR course is for those who need a higher level of training to work and respond to emergencies in isolated or wilderness settings. Training is suitable for those who supervise or act as guides for groups of people. The course covers material in Red Cross Standard First Aid, includes CPR Level C & AED certification.

 

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Heart Truth for Mother’s Day Tea
Date: Sat. May 8

Did you know...Heart disease and stroke are the leading cause of death among Canadian women.  This workshop will educate you about identifying your risk of heart disease and stroke, the warning signs, and how to take charge of your heart health by making lifestyle changes and taking action to reduce your risk as much as 80%. This presentation is created by the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

 

Stress Workshop

Stress is an everyday fact of life, but not all stress is bad. In fact stress is essential to life, the key is how we respond to stressful experiences that determines the impact stress will have on your life. How we interpret and label our experiences can serve either to relax us or stress us. Here is the chance to learn more about stress, where does it come from?, how does it grow?, and what can I do about it?. We will take a look at these questions and come up with some answers that may help us deal with the inevitable day to day hassles or major life changes that come our way.

 


Native Drum Making Workshop
Date: May 29 & 30
Time: 9 - 4:30
Cost: $225


This hands-on workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to make their own drum from scratch while learning on many levels.
Learning Outcomes: 
- Learn and reflect on the interconnectedness to the earth for all living things 
- Foster respect for what we take from Mother Earth and for what we are given
- Make and take away your own personal drum

Who Should Attend?
- Any person that wishes to take a journey from the head and hands to the heart.
- Anyone who wishes to make their own drum from scratch
